Delaware Small Steps to Health & Wealth, University of Delaware, participates in Impact Collaborative Summit

Atlanta, GA. The Delaware Small Steps to Health & Wealth Team, representing the University of Delaware, participated in eXtension’s Impact Collaborative Summit. As a result of their work, they have been invited to apply for a $5000 grant to help bring new capacity to their project. Members of the Delaware Small Steps to Health & Wealth team include Kimi Moore and Sarah Bercaw.  

28 Project and Program teams across Cooperative Extension representing 36 institutions attended the Impact Collaborative in Atlanta for a unique opportunity to create impactful results at the local level by increasing Cooperative Extension’s organizational readiness and capacity for innovation and change. Teams were connected with skills, tools, resources, and partners that helped expand and deepen their impact.

Partners representing organizations external to Cooperative Extension were invited to attend the Impact Collaborative Summit and participated in our first national Partner Forum, with a guided discussion by leaders from the Institute for the Future.  This forum was designed to connect private and public sector organizations focused on community impact, including leaders from Cooperative Extension, and look for future opportunities to engage collectively. After the forum, partners had the opportunity to spend time talking with teams and learning more about the work they are doing to make an impact in their states, locales, and across the nation.

After three days of hard work, teams participated in a LaunchFest where they presented their project or program to a panel of partners and Cooperative Extension leaders.

eXtension will continue its support of the Delaware Small Steps to Health & Wealth team through Engage & Empower Online, our new resource that offers Impact Collaborative teams and Innovation Facilitators unique professional development opportunities including webinars and learning circles, exclusive access to publications and presentations, access to a new online version of the Impact Collaborative Innovation Skill-Building Experience tool, and a place where the Impact Collaborative can continue to connect teams with the resources they may need to continue project or program growth towards increasing innovation and local impact.

CIVIC team receives top score for Southern Region teams at Impact Collaborative Summit

Atlanta, GA. The CIVIC Team, representing Florida A&M University and the University of Florida, participated in eXtension’s Impact Collaborative Summit. The CIVIC Team received the top score for the Southern Region during the LaunchFest portion of the Summit, an opportunity for teams to pitch their projects and programs to a panel of Cooperative Extension leaders and external partners.  As a result of their work, they have a pre-approved application for a $5000 grant that brings new capacity to their project. Members of the CIVIC team include Sandra Thompson, Lara Milligan, Kenya Washington, Dreamal Worthen, Martha Monroe, and Carol Alberts.

eXtension Launches Engage & Empower Online

eXtension’s Impact Collaborative has launched a new resource, Engage & Empower Online (EEO), to support collaborative efforts for Extension professionals that are part of Impact Collaborative project and program teams, and Innovation Facilitators. It is available in both web browser and mobile app versions.

EEO offers Impact Collaborative teams and Innovation Facilitators unique professional development opportunities including webinars and learning circles, access to a new online version of the Impact Collaborative Innovation Skill-Building Experience tool, and a place where the Impact Collaborative can continue to connect teams with the resources they may need to continue project or program growth towards increasing innovation and local impact.

Additionally, EEO users have exclusive access to publications and presentations such as research-based perspectives, global expertise, signals of change, and specialized data to help organizations transform urgent foresight into actionable insight from the Institute for the Future’s – Future 50.

One key feature of EEO enables teams to work collaboratively through a Groups feature, transcend the limitations of email communication, and ensure communication across geographically-dispersed teams continue beyond face-to-face Impact Collaborative events. Unlike previous models, such as Communities of Practice, EEO Groups are a place to continue incubation of a project or program beyond face-to-face events and connect with resources needed to help fill gaps in program and project planning while tapping into eXtension’s broad network of Innovation Facilitators, Key Informants, and Partners.

During today’s launch of EEO, 30 Impact Collaborative project and program teams and over 100 Innovation Facilitators have been given access.

To become an Impact Collaborative Project or Program Team and access Engage & Empower Online, members can send their project and program teams to the Impact Collaborative Summit which is held every April and October. Additionally, members can host a Statewide or Institution-Wide Innovation Skill-Building Experience where eXtension provides the Impact Collaborative staffing and support to work with your teams in your states or at your institutions. Impact Collaborative Leads Statewide Innovation Skill-Building Experience at the University of Idaho Extension

Idaho Falls, ID. eXtension’s Impact Collaborative led a statewide Innovation Skill-Building Experience for the University of Idaho Extension at their annual conference. Over the course of two days, the Impact Collaborative worked with 117 Extension professionals on 17 teams from across the state to help build skills in increasing innovation, ideating with project and program teams using a design thinking and lean experimentation methodology, and creating action plans for projects and programs ready for implementation.

According to Dr. Barbara Petty, the Director for Extension at the University of Idaho,

“I believe that the Impact Collaborative methodology has really helped our teams to look at their projects, look at what they are doing, and identify gaps, holes, and resources they may need to move forward. We’ve been able to break down into small groups and really have had the opportunity to have a lot of great conversation around the issues and the problems. [We’ve] been able to look at different things, see what is different in the past, and look to see how we can do things differently. I really feel like this has been an opportunity for our teams to be innovative, throw out new ideas, and look at new ways of doing things to reach our changing demographics and audiences in Extension.”

The University of Idaho Extension will continue working with the project and program teams that attended to help move vetted projects towards implementation. eXtension will provide direct support to further incubate six teams that are involved with projects that align with eXtension initiatives and new technologies.

Every eXtension member can host the Impact Collaborative annually for a statewide or institution-wide event focused on building skills in Innovation. eXtension provides the staffing and support for these events. 18 more Extension professionals join the Impact Collaborative as Innovation Facilitators

Atlanta, GA. 18 Cooperative Extension professionals representing 14 institutions attended eXtension’s Impact Collaborative Innovation Facilitator Training in Atlanta, GA in March 2019. They completed initial learning and application of the Impact Collaborative methodology. Their skills help them lead innovation skill-building experiences at state or institutional events and at the national Impact Collaborative Summits. They join 41 other Impact Collaborative Innovation Facilitators representing 28 institutions that were trained in January 2019, and 53 others trained last year.

Directors & Administrators appoint individuals across Extension to be trained in the Impact Collaborative innovation skill-building methodology to work alongside their leadership teams to help bring more innovation to their projects and programs for increased impact. Upon completion of the training, eXtension will work directly with its trained Facilitators and institutional leadership teams to design a local event that helps project and program teams find innovative ways to advance local impact. Registration for the Impact Collaborative Summit, April 30th – May 2nd 2019, is open

Registration for the first of two national Impact Collaborative Summits in 2019, from April 30th – May 2nd, 2019 in Atlanta, GA, is open. The registration deadline is April 7th, 2019.

Per member benefit, we offer five free registrations for you to send a project or program team to the Summit. Additional teams or team members are welcome to join with a registration fee.

With the first Summit behind us, we’ve used that experience to enhance and improve our future events. The upcoming Summit has been designed to catalyze project and program teams in the various stages of their planning and implementation process. This includes individualized support to help propel your team through its journey towards launching its project or program.

What’s different about this Impact Collaborative Summit compared to the previous Summit?

At the Summit, teams will have tools and resources available to them, customized to their individual needs, to answer the critical questions about their projects and program. To help your teams with their unique needs, they will each be assigned their own coach to help troubleshoot and maximize available resources at the event  to move their teams forward. Rather than work with project and program teams as a whole, we will be providing your teams an individualized, custom experience, tailored to their needs.

What are your teams going to bring back from the Summit?

Prior to the Summit, we will work to match teams with potential partners that will be joining us. Your teams will bring back a project or program that is more fully thought out, potential partnership opportunities, and having additional tools, resources, and techniques to further their engagement. Our goal is for teams to return to you with increased project or program innovation, stronger planning, and develop a foundation for partnerships that bring new capacities.

While they continue their work beyond the Summit, we will connect with teams through our new engagement platform – Engage & Empower Online – to continue to help propel them towards implementation. When we connect with them again at the next Impact Collaborative Summit, they will be in a different stage of their journey and we will be able to help connect them with the tools, resources, and partners they need to continue their growth.

What if the team you are sending has already been to an Impact Collaborative Summit?

Even if a team has come to an Impact Collaborative Summit or local event, it will be a very different experience for them because their project or program will be at a different stage of their evolution. This will require different tools, resources, and partnership engagement. The Impact Collaborative Summit is designed to work with teams at any stage of their project or program development to help increase their project or program innovation, strengthen their planning, and introduce them to new capacities.

  3. Choose Impact Collaborative Summit Registration

  4. Above that option, it says “Enter Promo Code.” (If you are registering as an additional team or team member beyond the five free registrations, do not enter the promo code and proceed to step 6).

  5. Click that and enter the promo code provided to your Director or Administrator if you are selected to receive one of the five free registrations.

  6. In addition to registering individually, team leaders must also fill out this questionnaire  in order to have a completed team registration.

eXtension’s Impact Collaborative Offers 2nd National Innovation Facilitator Training of 2019 in March

BECOME AN IMPACT COLLABORATIVE INNOVATION FACILITATOR 

March 12 – 14, 2019

Due to popular demand, we have decided to host another national Impact Collaborative Innovation Facilitator training to ensure all members have an opportunity to send an individual to be trained. Our January session included 41 new Innovation Facilitators representing 28 institutions from all five Cooperative Extension regions. This second training opportunity is primarily for institutions that did not send an individual to be trained at our January 2019 session.

About the Training

To help our member institutions generate a more visible, measurable, local impact – we provide training and development in the Impact Collaborative Innovation Skill-Building process to Extension professionals so they can take these skills back to their institutions and help their local project and program teams find more innovative ways to move institutional goals forward. With the help of our Innovation Facilitators, we can continue to help bring new innovation to the Cooperative Extension System. This is a membership benefit included with every member institutions’ investment in eXtension.

This three-day training is designed to teach the Impact Collaborative Innovation Skill-Building process and provide the skills necessary to facilitate this process in your own state and be equipped to serve as an invited facilitator of an Impact Collaborative State Event and at our national Summit.

We recommend that Directors and Administrators select Facilitators such as a program leader, or someone who works closely with their leadership team, who possesses strong confidence in their facilitation skills, and can be effective in working alongside their leadership team and other program leaders to catalyze innovation throughout their organization. At eXtension, embracing diversity is one of our core values; we encourage participation from individuals that share that same value.

  • For Designated Member Free Trainee:
    • Full reimbursement of hotel room nights cost
    • Full reimbursement of airfare or mileage to the event
    • Cover Per Diem meals not provided at the event

  2. eXtension uses the Concur travel system to reimburse travelers.  Please contact Brenna Kotar, ceoassistant@extension.org , to get set up in the eXtension Concur system.  You will need to provide an email address that is not associated with another Concur account.  It takes approximately 48 hours to be set up in the eXtension Concur system, so please do this prior to your trip.
  3. Upon travel completion, you will receive reimbursement through the eXtension Concur system. If you have questions or need assistance with your expense report, please contact Brenna Kotar, ceoassistant@extension.org.
