Results from the June 2020 Farm Journal Story Lead Contest

News, Newsroom

In May, the eXtension Foundation launched a monthly story lead contest in partnership with Farm Journal in the Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group here in Connect Extension. Monthly winners, along with their Extension Directors and Administrators, have the chance to work with Farm Journal to further develop their story and have it published in Farm Journal media. The topic area for the June 2020 contest was about reducing food waste and we received several excellent submissions! We’d like to thank everyone that submitted a story lead for June 2020.

@Stacey Stearns, Program Specialist – Educational Outreach, University of Connecticut submitted the winning story lead, Operation Community Impact Delivers Milk & Dairy Products to Food Pantries. UConn 4-H, the youth development program of Extension in the College of Ag, Health, and Natural Resources organized Operation Community Impact to reduce food waste and address community food security. 4-H members and volunteers worked with community partners and EFNEP to deliver milk and dairy products to 10,710 families statewide, distributing 78, 894 pounds of dairy products to 96 food pantries in 57 towns. 99 CAHNR Extension families donated their time and vehicles for distribution.

Congrats to Stacey and the University of Connecticut! We look forward to seeing the story published in Farm Journal.

eXtension Partners with Farm Journal to Launch Monthly Story Lead Contest for Cooperative Extension

News, Newsroom

The eXtension Foundation, in partnership with Farm Journal, is pleased to bring this opportunity to Cooperative Extension.

Each month, we will offer a story lead contest in Connect Extension in the new Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group. Monthly winners, along with their Extension Directors and Administrators, will have the chance to work with Farm Journal to further develop their story and have it published in Farm Journal media.

Submissions for the contest are simply story leads, not full narratives. Farm Journal staff will review all submissions. Topic areas for story leads will change for each monthly contest.

Please join the Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group in Connect Extension to submit your story.  It’s fast and easy to do, and available to all Cooperative Extension professionals!

The topic area for the May 2020 contest is about the important work you’re doing to help farmers and rural communities create, conserve, or otherwise manage wildlife habitat. Click here to learn more about the format, and details about how to submit your story lead in Connect Extension!

About Farm Journal & Trust In Food

Farm Journal is the nation’s leading business information and media company serving the agricultural market. Started 144 years ago with the preeminent Farm Journal magazine, the company serves the row crop, livestock, produce and retail sectors. Trust In Food, a Farm Journal initiative, recognizes consumer confidence and trust in the value chain that grows, processes and markets America’s food depends on a sustainable and resilient agricultural production system.

Across the U.S., Trust In Food collaborates to bolster such a system – alongside universities, government agencies, conservation nonprofits, farmer associations, agribusinesses, food companies and food retailers. Trust In Food empowers farmers to catalyze economic, environmental and social improvements by explaining the why, how and what next of adopting on-farm conservation and sustainability practices.
