What is the change you are designing to achieve?

The change is to increase beginning beekeepers knowledge through education and help them get there new be hives through the first year

How will you measure that change?

Through evaluation after the workshop and post workshop evaluation in 6 months to a year

What is the innovative component or strategy you will implement as a result of the design-a-thon?

The current project is done but based on the design-a-thon I got good ideas on things that should be included in the post evaluation that will go out in 6 months to a year. Also got good ideas to incorporate when summarizing and reporting the data. Also got good ideas to use in gathering further data that will be helpful in developing more advanced educational opportunities for this group.

How did the design-a-thon help you?

It opened my mind and gave me ideas that I had not thought about. It caused me to think more about development of a program and how to evaluate a program. It also taught me how to work better with people.

Summary:

This workshop educated people interested in being beekeepers and provided them the knowledge to start their bee hives and get those bees through the first year. The class was taught by a local beekeeping group. We provided and evaluation to the participants which gauged their knowledge gained, how they plan to use the knowledge gained, there likelihood of becoming beekeepers, how many hives they plan to setup, and any other topics they would like to see in subsequent presentations. We will summarize the data and use it to build more educational opportunities in beekeeping.
