eXtension.org announces the launch of the new Healthy Food Choices in Schools resource area (Community of Practice or CoP). It is loaded with research-based information and innovative tools to help school food service directors and staff, school administrators, teachers, parents and students implement changes that encourage kids to choose and eat healthier foods in school cafeterias, without a negative impact on the cafeteria’s revenue. In addition, through the Ask an Expert feature anyone can pose specific questions that will be answered by an expert within 48 hours.

“What kids eat in schools is a topic that has gotten a lot of attention recently, particularly in regard to helping kids eat more healthfully at lunch time. The Healthy Food Choices in Schools Community of Practice provides a unique and positive environment to encourage and support schools and food service professionals who are working to create and support healthy change among their students,” says Brian Wansink, Professor of Marketing at Cornell University, author of Mindless Eating and leader of the new resource area.
The CoP is made possible by the support and research of the Center for Behavioral Economics in Child Nutrition Programs at Cornell University headed by Brian Wansink, Ph.D., and David Just, Ph.D., and the collaboration of its membership. Members are volunteers who contribute their research findings and expertise and come from various academic, governmental and non-governmental institutions nationwide.
